Dear Branham Baseball fans,
Welcome to the 2008 Baseball Season! We are looking forward
to building on the 2007 Varsity and Frosh/Soph BVAL championships. The
purpose of the baseball program is to provide an atmosphere where our
student/athletes will grow as players, students, and as young men. The
coaching staff will strive to make this season a valuable experience for
our players.
The varsity squad graduated 9 seniors from last year’s team,
but we are excited to supplement our 6 returning players with some
talented athletes moving up from the frosh/soph team. The strength of
this year’s team will be pitching, with eight players who should see
innings this season, and depth, with competition for starting time at
most spots.
The
winter scrimmages demonstrated the offensive promise of this year’s
squad (a .441 team batting average), and the emphasis on execution
during these games should pay dividends throughout the season.
Highlights from the winter scrimmages include:
Sam
Whittemore’s .647 Batting Average
Matt Nagatani’s .632 On Base Percentage
Chris Mendoza and Sam Whittemore tying for the team lead with 7
Strikeouts each
The Junior Varsity team has been infused with new players
which (along with the 5 returning players) will add to the future
success of the program.
We are lucky to have the support of our community, which is
demonstrated in the advertising banners on our outfield fence, and the
sponsors in this program and on our website (www.branhambaseball.com).
The coaching staff and players are excited about the 2008 season, and we
thank you for you support of Branham Baseball!
